EVENT HISTORY
The New Beginnings Meet began in 2013 with the aim of helping trainee pilots obtain their license, through flying experience and revision and exam sessions. In 2015, the aim changed to encouraging new people – pilots, crew and officials – into competition ballooning, which had unfortunately seen a dip in numbers over the previous 5 – 10 years. From 2016, the New Beginnings Meet combined the two goals – aiming to help trainee pilots towards their license and help train pilots in competition ballooning, whether this be through practicing competition tasks in flight, or through theoretical teaching if the weather is poor.
The New Beginnings Meet has always been based at Wolverley Secondary School, just north of Kidderminster. There is a great social atmosphere to the event, with a welcome dinner on the Friday evening to get everyone together, and plenty of pubs nearby to accomodate teams whether we fly or not. It’s also a beautiful area to fly over and the landowners are usually very welcoming.
